Take a Drive on the Yellowstone Trail
The Yellowstone Trail was the first transcontinental automobile highway that spanned the northern United States. It started as an idea of a few South Dakota businessmen who wanted a decent road stretching from Aberdeen to Ipswich. It wasn’t long before others joined in the vision; the road soon reached from Massachusetts to Washington state. Today, travelers on the Yellowstone Trail, US Highway 12 in South Dakota, travel through the towns of Milbank, Waubay, Webster, Aberdeen, Ipswich, Mobridge and Lemmon. Highlights include Lake Oahe, Storybook Land, The Waubay National Wildlife Refuge, Sitting Bull’s gravesite, Hugh Glass story marker and many other historic stops.
